Don Damsteegt, Ph.D.

Dr. Damsteegt is the owner of Family Psychology Associates, P.C. and is a Licensed Psychologist and a Health Service Provider in Psychology.

Dr. Damsteegt is a licensed psychologist and a Health Service Provider in Psychology. He has been in practice since 1983, including a year of post-doctoral residency in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. His specialties include assessment and treatment of individuals and couples. He has been trained Cognitive Therapy, which is an empirically validated treatment for many disorders, including depression and anxiety. He also is a certified Imago Relationship Therapist. He does assessment of personality, intelligence, ADHD and substance abuse, including being a DOT-SAP. He holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska in 1981.

Tom Lane, LISW

Tom received his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and has worked in the counseling field for twenty-years.  He has eighteen years of post-graduate experience, and has received post-graduate training in Marriage and Family Therapy.  Tom’s interests include therapy with families and couples, anger issues, adult depression and anxiety, and behavior management of children and adolescents. He enjoys working with parents on discipline techniques and parent education. Tom has five years experience counseling active duty military service members and their families.

Gloria Bieret, Ed.D. LMHC

Gloria Bieret is a Licensed Mental Health counselor (LMHC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Registered Play Therapist/Supervisor (RPT-S), and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families since 2008. Gloria works with clients using a prescriptive approach and incorporates; Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, Solution-Focused, Adlerian, Family-Systems, Psychodynamic, Play therapy and other experiential modalities. Gloria has training and experience in working with clients who have experienced trauma or adverse life events as well as challenges with transitions in life.

Carla Hughes, MA, LMHC

Carla Hughes is a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She received her MA degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa and has counseled students at the UNI counseling center. She went on to work with at-risk children at Four Oaks Residential Treatment Center in Cedar Rapids. Carla has been serving the community since 2004 and has worked extensively with children and adolescents using art and play therapies. Also of special interest to Carla is helping couples cope with relationship stressors by building communication skills and in working with individuals with eating disorders

Ken Fate, MS, LMHC

In practice since 1996.  Provides counseling for children, adolescents and young adults as well as their families.  He emphasizes use of an eclectic approach including; Adlerian theory, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral  Therapy, Brief Therapy, Family Systems and Play Therapy in promoting  cognitive, emotional and behavioral change. Ken has completed Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. He uses this training this training in his couples work.
